About Mateus Chipa and the Foundation of TSS
My name is Mateus Chipa, and I approach this introduction with care, recognizing the importance of the topics I'm about to discuss. My aim is to promote self-empowerment within the Black community and emphasize our responsibility to shape a prosperous future for future generations.
The idea for Theby Space Services (TSS) arose from personal reflection and a sense of duty. Over eight years, I noticed the absence of a space exploration company led by Black entrepreneurs. Despite the presence of influential Black figures globally and discussions on various platforms, space exploration was rarely mentioned. It struck me that no nation predominantly populated by Black people or Black influencers in the podcasts I listened to had discussed establishing a Black-owned rocket company.
Frustrated by this inaction and realizing that waiting for others to lead was futile, I decided to take action. TSS was created from a commitment to break new ground, regardless of the challenges. As a Black man, father, and brother, I felt a deep responsibility to pave the way for a brighter future, knowing that our current actions will shape the world for future generations.
Space exploration is crucial for the Black community for several reasons. Firstly, it presents a unique opportunity for Black individuals to participate in groundbreaking scientific endeavors, challenging stereotypes and inspiring future generations. Secondly, space exploration can lead to technological advancements that benefit communities worldwide, including those in underrepresented areas. Finally, by actively engaging in space exploration, the Black community can assert its presence in a field where it has been historically underrepresented, fostering a sense of pride and accomplishment.
My vision goes beyond mere participation. I dream of missions where Black astronauts are not exceptions but significant presences, alongside colleagues of diverse backgrounds. This aspiration is not about excluding others but about ensuring that we, as a community, actively claim our place in space exploration and hold ourselves accountable for our achievements.
TSS is more than a space exploration company; it's a call to action for the Black community and a statement to the world that we are ready to take our rightful place among the stars. It's a commitment to empowerment, ensuring that future space missions reflect the true diversity of humanity.
